History and wine come together in this beautiful project along the James River Canal.
With the great design team of Johannes Design, Mindy Carter Interior Design, and Leipertz Construction this cold shell space:
Into amazing space full of ambiance and character:
Owners Arvat McClain and Dr. Harry Watkins have created a place for wine, coffee, and history with a beautiful view of the canal.
The name, Bateau, pays homage to the African-American Bateaumen who transported tobacco and other goods along the James River in the 19th century. According to rvariverfront.com, "These boatmen were essential to Richmond’s canal system, which provided faster transport of raw materials and finished goods around the falls of the James."
Bateau also makes their own history by offering the largest selection of African-American vintners in Virginia.
The menu is predominantly seafood, (I can attest that the salmon and shrimp are delicious), and they also offer Sunday brunch. Visit www.bateaurva.com/ to make a reservation or view the menu.
